That’s because Hoyoung was born with the name Bae Hoyoung, just like his stage name that we know. Hoyoung was born and raised in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea. There, he lived with his parents and his siblings. However, unlike other families in most South Korean households, Hoyoung’s family is a bit different. He has one older brother and three older sisters, Hoyoung is the fifth child in his family. Is he the youngest one? Well, no, sorry. Hoyoung also has a younger sister, so his family has six children. A little bit rare to see in other Korean households. Even among K-pop idols, usually, there are not that many idols who have many siblings. Hoyoung and his family lived in Cheongju until Hoyoung was eight years old. After that, he moved to Queensland, New Zealand to study. Hoyoung spent the rest of his childhood to his teenage life in New Zealand. Since he didn’t experience schools in South Korea, only when he was in kindergarten and elementary school, Hoyoung was curious about Korea’s education system. Usually, some K-pop idols have a desire to be singers before they audition and become idols. But for Hoyoung, it’s a little bit different. He already had the skills, but it was just a hobby for him. Hoyoung originally had a dream to be an architect or other occupation that requires Science such as a physical therapist. He also wanted to study in college and took some classes in woodworking, physics, and even the human body. But everything changed when he came back to Korea for a while during winter vacation. Hoyoung happened to join the audition of Jellyfish Entertainment. It happened around 2016. He performed a dance from J-Ho with the song titled “Just Jerk”. He also sang Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” and Zion.T’s “Absolute Melody”. Hoyoung was the first member in Verivery who joined the agency. He had a trainee period of around two and a half years.
Verivery’s Hoyoung’s Debut with Verivery

He was just a student from New Zealand coming back to Korea, his motherland, just to spend the holiday. But destiny said that he should debut as a K-pop idol, so here he is now. Hoyoung didn’t directly debut as an idol at that time. He needed to be trained for years so his skill in both dancing and singing are satisfying enough to be a K-pop idol. Not only that, but he also needed to learn to rap, and even compose music and write songs. In August 2018, finally, Hoyoung’s road to being an idol was opening widely. Jellyfish Entertainment, the agency where Hoyoung spent more than two years as a trainee, announced that they will be debuting a new boy group. One by one, the faces and names of the members were revealed to the public. Hoyoung was the second member to be revealed after the leader, Dongheon.
